President
President
Purpose: Leadership and administration of the Association.
Duties:
- Providing leadership and enthusiasm for Kitchener Centre’s New Democrats.
- Presiding at general meetings of the Association, and presenting an annual report on behalf of the Executive.
- Convening and presiding at meetings of the Executive.
- Working with the executive in establishing and meeting annual goals of the Association.
- Liaising with other local NDP association presidents to develop mutual goals, joint events, and improved public relations.
- Liaising with the provincial and federal offices in garnering support for the Association, including visits by MPs and MPPs.
Qualifications:
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous short-term and long-term tasks and goals.
- On-going drive to meet recurring deadlines and resolve to meet tight or unanticipated deadlines.
- Organized in administration and delegation, especially in the area of clear communication, document and email management, and follow-up on inquiries and assignments.
- Professional and personable public relations abilities.
- Constructive and diplomatic approach when dealing with contentious or difficult issues.
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, its history, policies, and of Canadian politics in general.
Vice-President
Vice-President
Purpose: Support the duties of the President and perform those duties in the president’s absence.
Duties:
- Providing leadership and enthusiasm for Kitchener Centre’s New Democrats.
- Supporting the President in their duties.
- In the President’s absence, convening and presiding at meetings of the Executive.
Qualifications:
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous short-term and long-term tasks and goals.
- On-going drive to meet recurring deadlines and resolve to meet tight or unanticipated deadlines.
- Constructive and diplomatic approach when dealing with contentious or difficult issues.
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, its history, policies, and of Canadian politics in general.
Secretary
Secretary
Purpose: Record and distribute minutes and handle the Association’s correspondence.
Duties:
- Recording and distributing the minutes of meetings of the Association and the Executive.
- Receiving correspondence for the Association and bringing it to the attention of the Executive.
- Providing notice of general meetings to the membership.
Qualifications:
- Excellent skill in written English.
- High typing speed.
- Great attention to detail.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word.
Federal Financial Agent
Federal Financial Agent
Purpose: Maintain and report financial records of the federal Association.
Duties:
- Maintaining records of all expenditures and revenues of the Association.
- Filing financial reports to the Association’s auditor and Elections Canada in accordance with the Canada Elections Act.
- Reporting regularly to the Executive concerning the state of the Association’s finances.
- Preparing an annual financial report for presentation at the Annual General Meeting.
Qualifications:
- Must not be prohibited to be the Association’s Financial Agent under the Canada Elections Act.
- Must not be the Association’s Provincial CFO.
- Strong mathematic and accounting skills.
- Impeccable record-keeping abilities.
- Absolute ability to meet filing deadlines of financial reports.
Provincial Chief Financial Officer
Provincial Chief Financial Officer
Purpose: Maintain and report financial records of the provincial Association.
Duties:
- Maintaining records of all expenditures and revenues of the Association.
- Filing financial reports to the Association’s auditor and Elections Ontario in accordance with the Election Finances Act, Ontario.
- Reporting regularly to the Executive concerning the state of the Association’s finances.
- Preparing an annual financial report for presentation at the Annual General Meeting.
Qualifications:
- Must not be prohibited to be the Association’s CFO under the Election Finances Act, Ontario.
- Must not be the Association’s Federal Financial Agent.
- Strong mathematic and accounting skills.
- Impeccable record-keeping abilities.
- Absolute ability to meet filing deadlines of financial reports.
Membership Secretary
Membership Secretary
Purpose: Maintaining and building the membership of the Association.
Duties:
- Maintaining the Association’s membership records.
- Developing strategy for and organizing membership drives.
- Exchanging membership reports with the federal and provincial offices of the Party, according to agreements between the New Democratic Party of Canada and the Ontario New Democratic Party.
- Ensuring that an accurate membership list is available for registration at General Meetings of the Association.
- Preparing an annual membership report for presentation at the Annual General Meeting.
Qualifications:
- Professional and personable public relations abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent record-keeping abilities.
Provincial Council Delegate
Provincial Council Delegate
Purpose: Represent the Association in the provincial party’s governing body.
Duties:
- Representing the Association at Provincial Council meetings typically held in Toronto at least three times a year.
- Reporting to the Executive outcomes of Provincial Council decisions and other items of note.
Qualifications:
- Constructive and diplomatic approach when dealing with contentious or difficult issues.
- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, its history, policies, and of Canadian politics in general.
Assets:
- Experience working within a deliberative assembly.
Youth Representative
Youth Representative
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of youth and youth-related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting youth.
- Organizing youth activities on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between the Association and the Ontario New Democratic Youth and New Democratic Youth of Canada.
- Liaising between the Association and local youth-focused community groups and services.
Qualifications:
- Ages 13-25.
- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.
- Professional and personable public relations abilities.
Assets:
- Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, its history, policies, and of Canadian politics in general.
Women's Representative
Women’s Representative
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of women and women-related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting women.
- Organizing women’s activities on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between the Association and the Women’s Committee of the Ontario NDP and Women’s Commission of the federal NDP.
- Liaising between the Association and local women-focused community groups and services.

- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.

LGBTQ Representative
LGBTQ Representative
Note: The acronym “LGBTQ” stands to mean “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer” but represents all persons of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of LGBTQ people and LGBTQ-related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting LGBTQ people.
- Organizing activities for LGBTQ people on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between the LGBT Caucus of the Ontario NDP and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Committee of the federal NDP.
- Liaising between the Association and local LGBTQ-focused community groups and services.
Qualifications:
- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.
- Professional and personable public relations abilities.
Assets:

Disability Representative
Disability Representative
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities and disability-related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting persons with disabilities.
- Organizing activities for persons with disabilities on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between the Disability Rights Committee of the Ontario NDP and Disability Rights Committee of the federal NDP.
- Liaising between the Association and local community groups and services for persons with disabilities.
Qualifications:
- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.
- Professional and personable public relations abilities.
Assets:

Aboriginal Representative
Aboriginal Representative
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of aboriginal people and aboriginal-related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting aboriginal people.
- Organizing activities for aboriginal people on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between the Aboriginal Section of the Ontario NDP and New Democrat Aboriginal Commission of the federal NDP.
- Liaising between the Association and local aboriginal-focused community groups and services.
Qualifications:
- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.

Diversity Representative
Diversity Representative
Purpose: Represent and advocate on behalf of ethnic, religious, and racial minorities and related issues.
Duties:
- Advocating to the Executive on issues affecting ethnic, religious, and racial minorities.
- Organizing activities for ethnic, religious, and racial minorities on behalf of the Association or in conjunction with local community groups or services.
- Liaising between ethnic, religious, and racial committees of the Ontario NDP and Participation of Visible Minorities Committee of the federal NDP.
- Liaising between the Association and local ethnic, religious, and racial focused community groups and services.

- Effective at advocating and motivating independently.

Member-at-large
Member-at-large
Purpose: Provide general guidance and input on the Executive.
Duties:
- Assist with the activities of the Association.
Qualifications: This role is intended for New Democrat members looking to take an involved role in the Association. As such, there are no qualifications beyond enthusiasm and willingness to work towards electing a New Democrat MP and MPP in Kitchener Centre!
